Fav.or.it

Fav.or.it is yet another feed aggregater, that has been in private beta for quite some time. There has been some debate from a few users saying that it is nothing compare to Google Reader. But what those users failed to understand is that Google Reader and Fav.or.it are two different types of feed readers.

Google Reader is used for adding and subscribing to feeds, while Fav.or.it is more used for reading news more like an advanced online newspaper for blogs. So lets learn a little more about Fav.or.it since most people can not try it out for themselves yet.

Once signed into Fav.or.it you will be brought to the main subscription page which looks like this:

In the main column will be popular news that is also geared toward you depending on previous things you have read on Fav.or.it. You can click on any of the article and read them etc…

The heart of Fav.or.it lies in the side bar that you see on the main page. Here is a closer look of it:

The first part of the side bar is the Subscriptions drop down. Here you can see and manage your subscriptions. The neat part about subscribing to things is you don’t have to subscribe to a particular feed. The neat part of Fav.or.it Is you can keep drilling deeper and deeper into catagories and tags to seperate and organize the thigns you want to read. As you can see in the above image there are numbers next to the Ubuntu and the Linux subscriptions letting me know there are un-read items in each subscription.

Next down the sidebar you can see the conversation drop down. This is a great feature in Fav.or.it that allows you to track comments on posts you have commented on. This allows for two or more peolpe to actually talk back and forth with in comments to discuss things. When somone comments on somethign you have commented on it will show up in the comments section like this:

As you can see there is one un-read comment on that Google Story I have commented on. Another great thign about Fav.or.it is that comments posted on the actual blogs also show up in Fav.or.it’s comments and comments posted from within Fav.or.it will show up on the blogs!

These are just a few of teh great features in Fav.or.it as I play with it more I will do an update post. Also I will keep you posted when they give me invites to share!
