New Info on Dell mini Inspiron
The Dell ultra portable has finally been revealed at engadget. To me it looks pretty nice and has decent specks. But I think it doesn’t have much when compared to the MSI Wind unless the new Dell is going to be very cheap like $200. If it’s not then I think the Wind is a better choice….

How Ultra-portable Laptops will help Linux
It seems the new hot market to get into is the Ultra-portable laptop market. They have actually been called a number of different things but I am going to stick with Ultra-portable laptops, because that seems to sound like it makes sense to me. Anywho The Eee pc was the first created by Asus and running Linux.
Since then the Eee pc has came out with a Windows xp version and many other ultra-portables are coming out with both Linux and Microsoft versions. So how does this help Linux?
Well when the Dell started selling Ubuntu laptops and computers some people were upset about how the price differences weren’t that big especially since Linux is a free operating system and Microsoft coasts hundreds. Well he answer to that is that Big companies like Dell buy Windows in bulk gettign a discount so they are only really paying for $50-$100 for the license on each computer they sell. Also all the junk software that comes pre-installed also helps offset the costs.
The $50-$100 price tag for the Microsoft operating system is not that big of a deal on a $1000+ laptop. But on a $300 laptop that is 1/6th or 1/4rd of the price….basically the cheaper the computer the more of a difference there will be in the price. The new trend of ultra-portable cheap laptops will help bring more Linux computers to the consumer market to the everyday people who may not have considered or even known about Linux otherwise.
I personally can’t wait to get my hands on an MSI Wind!

Ultra-portable Ubuntu Laptop
I was away for the weekend so I havent posted in while, but I got some cool news now. In one of my posts last week, I posted about how Ubuntu is building a flavor of their distribution for ultra-portable laptops. Now in that same article I wrote about how maybe Ubuntu should get into the market of building their own computer line, and selling them to the general public like Asus. Some comments were made on my post, saying Ubuntu does not have the resources to do this and that they should just concentrate on building the operating system. Well now that I think about it, that is why they teamed up with Dell in the first place.
Dell as most of you know sells a Ubuntu line of Linux computers. Dell now is building an Ultra-portable laptop, and plans to sell a version running Ubuntu Linux on it. Now we know why Ubuntu has made a flavor just for an ultra-portable laptop, so it can work flawlessly with the new Dell ultra-portable!
Cant wait to see it hit the market!
