Problems I have Had with vista So far….
My readers will know that I just got a Dell XPS m1530 laptop, and it came with Vista….Anywho I tried, and am still trying to keep an open mind about it. But here is a rundown of a few problems i have already had with Vista.
1. Some times when I log in to vista or even randomly when I come back to my computer I notice that the task bar is gone….it just disappears…Well most of it is gone, the whole bar goes except for the start menu icon, and I can open that up…. Its a pain, cause I have to restart each time, and as you know Vista doesn’t boot as fast as Linux.
2. Lots and lots of programs not responding. Ctr-Alt-Delete is becoming my most often hit key command.
3. One of the more scarier ones is when I come back to my computer after leaving it for a bit, and notice command line massage that says could not book some boot files were missing…Thanks god just shutting it off and turning it on again, got around this problem. It has happened twice so far, if it happens again, I will take a picture to show you all.
4. Not being able to wake it up from hibernation….. 9 times out of 10 I have to restart….

Bought a Dell XPS 1530
I got a sweet deal on a Dell XPS 1530 with 3 gigs of ram and a 160 gig hard drive, along with a 128mb nvidia video card, and finally a 9 cell battery. Can you guess what I paid? $999.99 US. I thought I did pretty good. Anywho It did come with Vista…….So I plan on doing a dual install of Ubuntu on there. Unfortunately I need to keep the Vista for college. But since I will have windows and I haven’t used it in like 5 years, anyone know of any good programs I would like that I can only download and use on windows (I mean without wine…)? I plan on giving Digsby a try, anything else you would recommend?

Dell Doesn’t Advertise it’s Ubuntu Line
If you have been living under a Rock and didnt know it, Dell has a Ubuntu Line up of computers. Most Linux people know this already, but it seems like Dell doesn’t want to let the general public in on their Ubuntu installed computers. When visiting the Dell Home and Office Laptop section of their website, there is a “narrow your selection” bar on the left. So I expanded the Operating System drop down expecting to see Ubuntu, but I only saw Windows xp and Windows Vista….
So why doesn’t Dell just sell its Ubuntu laptops equally as it sells its windows computers? I thought they were selling Ubuntu to give people choice, but it isn’t a choice open to everyone.

Reasons to downgrade from Windows Vista to XP
Vista is not ready for the feint of heart. Although we all drool over its glassy smooth looks and effects, I think we all need to hold back from our instincts. The instincts of the tech consumer is to buy the latest and greatest, as the industry just keeps pumping new things out at us….
