How to run Windows applications on Linux
Running Windows Applications on Linux isn’t the easiest task to accomplish for the new Linux users. But if you can follow directions and, are not afraid to to experiment with computers you should be fine. First off, Windows Applications are exactly that, Windows Applications meant to be used on Windows so don’t get annoyed if you can’t get every windows application working on your Linux machine.
To install and run Windows Applications on Linux there are two main options for you to use. One is WINE, and the other is Cedega. WINE is a program written to run windows programs on Linux without having a copy of the windows application. WINE is 100% windows code free and is Open Source software, meaning anyone can view its source and help contribute to it. Cedega on the other hand accomplishes the same goal as WINE, installing and running Windows application on Linux, but is software you must by. Cedega is bought on a subscription basis, $60 a year. Although you can buy 3 months at $5 a month then stop your subscription, but you will not receive any updates to Cedega after you cancel your subscription. I personally have not tried Cedega, but many online reviews say it is great for running windows games on Linux.

Dual-booting Windows and Linux the easy way
Dual booting Linux and Windows is a great way to try using Linux. Dual booting is having both Linux and Windows operating systems on your one computer at once. This works by creating multiple partitions and having each operating system go on different partitions etc. but what the heck does that actually mean?
To make it simple, you have both operating systems on one computer and when you turn your computer on, you just pick which operating system you want to use, and that one will boot up. The convenience of having a dual boot system is if you are not sure you want to make the switch to Linux from windows you can try out Linux on your computer without loosing your windows install.
In the past creating a dual boot system wasn’t exactly easy. Who wants to do hours of research to figure out how to partition a hard drive? And even if you research all that you may partition it and still make a small mistake and you could risk loosing everything on your computer! So how can one easily dual boot Linux and Windows without risking destroying their whole system? Well the answer is wubi….

Dell Doesn’t Advertise it’s Ubuntu Line
If you have been living under a Rock and didnt know it, Dell has a Ubuntu Line up of computers. Most Linux people know this already, but it seems like Dell doesn’t want to let the general public in on their Ubuntu installed computers. When visiting the Dell Home and Office Laptop section of their website, there is a “narrow your selection” bar on the left. So I expanded the Operating System drop down expecting to see Ubuntu, but I only saw Windows xp and Windows Vista….
So why doesn’t Dell just sell its Ubuntu laptops equally as it sells its windows computers? I thought they were selling Ubuntu to give people choice, but it isn’t a choice open to everyone.

Reasons to downgrade from Windows Vista to XP
Vista is not ready for the feint of heart. Although we all drool over its glassy smooth looks and effects, I think we all need to hold back from our instincts. The instincts of the tech consumer is to buy the latest and greatest, as the industry just keeps pumping new things out at us….

Linux: Is it right for you?
I have been using Linux as my main computer for only four years now, and love it. I do not have one regret about wiping my system of Microsoft and making the switch to Ubuntu Linux. Everything I used Microsoft windows for I can do faster on Linux. As much as I love Linux and and all the work I do to try and convert more users to Linux, I will be the first to admit Linux is not right for everyone….
